Is that a chicory root, or are you just happy to see me?
Chicory roots to roast for chicory coffee!
Roasting chicory root is an interesting new smell experience. The pervasive under tone of the smell in the house is like a combination of caramel mixed with stinky feet. But then when I open the oven to stir it around it smells really sweet and yummy, and leaves that yummy smell clinging to me, in my hair.
Here are a couple of chicory coffee recipes:
(Proportions based on 1 cup servings)
Cafe au Lait:
1 tsp. coffee
1 tsp. ground, roasted chicory root
Brew with water in brew method of choice.
Add some heated milk and a sweetener to taste, or coconut oil and go “bulletproof” style.
Coffee Free Chicory Mocha:
1 Tbsp. ground, roasted chicory root
1 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
1 – 2 tsp. honey
1 cup heated milk of your choice
Here is my chicory coffee success!
If you mixed coffee, cocoa and yerba mate all together I bet it would taste like this.
